The Mobile Drowning Incident!
Our media wallahs reported that in Siraha, our fine police personnel decided to drown mobile phones worth more than 1 Karod because the students were caught with their smartphones during the SEE and Class 12 exams. I guess those in charge thought this was the best treatment available for punishment.
Now, we need to figure out who gave the go-ahead for the watery treatment. Why didn't the authorities confiscate the phones before the exams or allow the students to place their valuables in a locker or under the supervision of the authorities? If these students were caught cheating with their mobile phones inside the examination hall, then they should have been punished by withholding their answer sheets, not confiscating them and drowning them in water.
I think the parents of these students should go to court and hold those who thought the drowning formula was a better idea accountable rather than returning the students' phones after the exams. The parents should demand compensation, and the local authorities should be held liable, and the courts should order them to buy new phones or repair them if possible, each one of them, and hand them back to the rightful owners.
The CDO of Siraha, Surendra Paudel, also needs to be punished as well. He tells the media that if those phones were auctioned off, then it would lead to social disruption. First of all, who gave you the power to confiscate private property and then even think of not giving it back or drowning them to save the phones from getting into the wrong hands?
The CDO goes further and insists that the committee followed all proper channels to ensure that 489 Androids and 7 iPhones met a soggy, irreparable end. I guess the CDOs and our local authorities are venting their frustrations on the students because now they have to go to the office on time and really work instead of settling shady financial disputes or land deals every day to make some illegal chiya kharcha.
The local parents need to organize and tell the CDO to drown his own phone as well. The parents are not only shocked by the CDO's logic but also question why the guards and inspectors let the students take their phones inside the examination hall in the first place. They could have searched all students and held their phones till the exams were over.
Today, it is mobile phones. Tomorrow, Siraha will witness the confiscation of motorcycles for speeding, then be demolished because some committee decided that was the right move. Instead of protecting personal property, the local authorities in Siraha seem to be hell-bent on destroying your stuff to satisfy their ego.
The sarkari hakims in Siraha must face the music. Instead of preventing the problem, they are happy to blame the students, and destroying one's personal property seems to be the norm. I hope those who participated in the drowning incident and those who gave the order to the police personnel to drown the phones should be hauled into the court and let's hope our justices will not side with the crazy authorities in this incident.
