Nepali communists have it both ways. A: Publicly, they get to preach the gospels of Marx and Mao and Satlin to the masses in a language that is too seductive to ignore. Nobody dares challenge them in public. That's because the Marxists are rabidly ideological and fiercely united in clusters. And they cling together to do anything to denounce those who disagree with them. [That's why they appear to break into factions and groups much more readily and viciously than non-communists]. B: Privately, they see no contradiction whatsoever when they send their own children to study and work in capitalist heartlands such as the US, the UK, Canada and Australia. In recent years, how many leftist netas have sent their kids to Russia, North Korea and Cuba? None, I would say. That aside, the janata too go off to work NOT in communist paradises . . . but in emerging pro-market economies such as those of Malaysia, Kuwait, Jordan and so on. That said, on a pragmatic note, to achieve anything political in Nepal, it's crucial to have working relations with communists. oohi ashu

If you look at the breakup of RPP aka Rajabadis. If you look at the breakup of Congressis- besides the Commies and the Rajabadis, are Not the parties of Nepal all the tukras of Congress Party? Kuber Sharma, Narayan Singh Pun, Gajju, Shere, Keshar Bdr Bista, Tulsi Giri, I think the list could go on forver. I think commies have the "commnunist party" attached to their name all the time, thus the break up seems to be more distinct. Otherwise, all the parties are the same.

Everyone, Karl, Mao and Stalin are failed politicians. If they ever did rise up to power, it was forced upon the public and our so callecd netas here have idolized them. I wonder whats going to happen to a country where 4 out of the major 7 poilitical parties are communists. Ironically, these people are campaiigning for democracy. I thought that was the last word on the dictionary of Mao, Karl and Stalin. It is so clear that they do not want democracy, only POWER. Kill em' all!

I don't think it is so much as 'who' is relevant, more like 'how' should any political theory be implemented given a specific social and economic setting of the land. Democracy as understood in modern context can fail utterly if there is unnecessary stress on 'who' is running the show more than 'how' he or she is running it. The last 13 or so years before the current king actively started playing politics, the 'who' aspect that dominated Nepali politics in the form of 'democratic parties' failed to nurture the infant democracy and strengthen its foundation. How is a villager from Rolpa to buy into the rhetoric of democratic parties when they themselves failed to withhold the ideals of theory they preached once? Marxism as a theory is broad. It provides a platform for a socialist agenda which in itself is geared towards the upliftment of distressed class. While politically democratic institutions provide checks and balances, those same checks and balances are absent in economic arena if one is to directly enforce a market economy. Communist theories appeal to masses because it presents them with a visible enemy, valid concepts and verifiable experiences. While it is difficult to wholly argue for the absolute communist state, given the socio-economic-politico setting of Nepal, one might very well support the cause where there is additional stress not only in the individual's rights and freedoms, but more so in terms of group, community, society and country. PS By parties I mean NC/UML and the rest. By communists I intend to imply Maoists only. Also, I didnt see any Stalin picture, were there ANY Stalin picture or is it just another communist paranoia to hit the bourgeoisie?

that was not karl marx but fred angeles. so its a pity that one makes fun of an old woman saying `hamro pyaro raja ko picture`. cpn uml decided not to hang any pictures of `internationally big communists`. guess those women are from bhaktapur cause the majdur kisan party is pretty strong there. and mao tse tung is popular for his farmers populist revolution. someone enjoying his life in a rich capitalist country might find it ridiculous to go out with mao`s pictures, but it is very relevant that those farmer jyapus in a poor capitalist kingdom of nepal to go out with mao`s picture. it`s all a matter of their choice. i wouldnt do that, u might not do that, but respect what people do. u might pretend to but dont know their story, i can bet on it!
