I've said this before and will say it again: a republic of Madesh is prolly as much a pipe dream as the republic of Patan. Proponents of the idea may have gotten the problem right but seem to have gotten the solution wrong. How exactly Madesh is going to become independent beats me.

A referendum? I'll take that any day if the performance of ethno-centric parties is any indication of where the minds of voters lie. Time and again it had become evident that this country is much stronger than some of us think. A decentralized governance model, which I hope will come out in the new constituion that the CA writes-up, can address, I believe, many of the needs of an independent Madesh or Limbuwan without the overwhelming costs of setting up a new state.

It's small wonder that the vast majority of non-Khas continue to see their political aspirations fulfilled through national forces like the NC,UML, Maoists or even the King in some cases. As long as people are given space and mechanism to address their grievances and aspirations there is a good chance that they will not let extremism rule their minds.

My 2 cents.

If you flipp the history books THERE SURE ARE MANY REASONS THEY WANT TO FREE MADHESH. THIS THREAD IS A GOOD EXAMPLE WHY THEY WANTO TO FREE MADHESH. IF YOU TREAT THEM LIKE INDIANS .. YOU REALLY THINK THEY WOULD LIKE TO BE NEPALI(even though they hold Nepali Citizenship ?)

Its like the KURDS in the Midddle East. THye are all spread among TURKEY, IRAQ, IRAN, and Syria. But they are treated like outcasts in every of those countries. And they have lived there for centuries. But people from Iran, Iraq, Turkey and Syria still treat them like 2nd class citizen. That is why they want their own country ..ONLY FOR KURDISH PEOPLE(just like for people of Madhesh).

Federal system sounds like a good solution.

I totally agree with Bathroom Coffee. I think Nepalese have not served them justice and they are treated like Indians, despite being Nepalese. So, they were not left with any other alternative. Thank God, they are just asking separate state, it is good, they are not asking for separate nation. I think making state and federal system is the best idea with the representation based on population and the appropriate jurisdiction.
