India’s BJP warns of severe backlash if Hindi not recognised
Kantipur Report
KATHMANDU, Aug 18 - Bharatiya
Janata Party (BJP), the main opposition and the second largest party of
India, Monday floated a ‘proposal’ to Nepal to accept Hindi as the
second national language, and warned of ‘serious consequences’ if Hindi
not reconnised as the major languages of Nepal.
The BJP
has said that if the new government of Nepal takes any policy against
the Hindi language, Hindu religion and India, it would affect the lives
of over 7 million Nepali people residing in India.
In the
wake of the election of the Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal as the
new prime minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, the BJP
leaders have increased relations with the Madhesh-based party leaders
to pressurise the Maoist-led government for the constitutional
recognition of Hindi in Nepal, saying that the Hindi language has been
popular in Nepal’s southern plains, bordering India, as the second
language of communication.
Meanwhile,
breaking the previous trend of visiting India by the newly elected
prime ministers, as the maiden tour to the foreign countries, Prime
Minister Dahal today decided to visit China. Dahal is leaving for China
on Saturday to take part in the closing ceremony of the Beijing
Olympics to be held on August 24.

Prachanda has made a courageous decision to visit China breaking the "traditions" of the past to visit India first by Nepal's Prime Minister-elect.
Indian Prime Ministers have not made official visits to Nepal so far, but India expects that Nepal's PM should immediately visit India after taking oath of office.
This is unfair and reflects colonial attitude of India. I urge Prachanda to remain committed to his decision and visit china to attend the Olympic closing ceremony. Instead, Prachanda should invite Indian Prime Minister to make official visit to Nepal rather than going to india first.
Interesting times ahead................eh?

HULAKI bro, when we'll know that we are in very very critical situation right now, why r u focusing on Prachanda's China Visit? it does not matter whether that a$$ travel to India or China as far as he to work for national soverginity but we'll know he won't. this JUGALI,will not do anyting except compromising natual issues with india and feeding his so called PLA.
Prachande, a so called nationalist, did not speak a single word against VP's hindi oath and that MF himself did not wear national dresss to take oath. Its not their fault, its our fault that we look after those trash leaders.

One more thing guys....BJP is considered most communal party even in India who had been held responsible right from Killing of Mahatma Gandhi (Yes it was done by a member from mother party of BJP), demolition of Babari Moseque which resulted in killing of thousands of innocent people across India and other countries, Hindu Muslim riots in Gujrat and other several incidents. They are considered the fundamentalist in India itself and has always conducted the politics of divide and rule. I see no reason to be surprised if the words came out of them just to gain a cheap political advantage on the way of General election in India next year.

Most Nepali people just cannot LIVE without hindi movies and TV shows. Don't have to go too far. http://www.sajha.com/sajha/html/openThread.cfm?forum=2&threadid=63330 (Some F!!K named "Sing" thread) It shows our mentality. We eat, drink, smell and watch Hindi at every instances of our life. Hypocrites. MadGod, I've heard it all bro, those lame excuses, even the educated says it all the time "Mitra Rasta ho. Chali Hal Chani", which doesn't make any sense. Where do most Nepali learn hindi from? We depend excessively on Indian media for entertainment, hence we learn; most nepali speak hindi now. So why double standard if they want us to accept hindi? It's not like Chinese telling us to accept their language, they're next to us like India. The saddest moments are when the Nepali in the US dance to hindi music, many even watch new Bollywood releases, keep updated to gossip news deligently. Given a chance to learn new things or even free yourself from everyday Bollywood masala, we blow it. What can you expect when they say Hindi should be a national language, we speak fluently already, what is your problem?

Mr. Rewire....I don't see any hyrocracy on starting the Singh thread. It simply requested opinion from fellow users about a movie which happened to be in Hindi language. Regarding the issue of Hindi being the National language in Nepal, it will happen sooner than later. Mark my words, when the constitution will be written in the CA the political parties will accept all these proposal promoted by Madeshi forum just to save the government. Make no doubt, you wanted New Nepal now enjoy the fruits. And FYI, I am not against it. If India gives recognization to Nepali as its National language,we shouldn't have any problem with that.
Yes, the interference by BJP is objectable, but that is not new and it is purely influenced by their political objectives as I have already explained in my other response. So, I will object to that, but for the overall arguement of Hindi language as National language, I support it.

deshbhakt,
'If India gives recognization to Nepali as its National language,we shouldn't have any problem with that'
India will never do this - mark these words. 7 million nepalese in 1.1 billion mass, it is just like a drop in an ocean. who cares - it is even rarer than the indigenous language of raute of Nepal and Yokuns of Alaska.
India will always talk down on Nepal like u are doing to ur fellow countrymen on sajha.

Official languages
-
Article 343 of the Indian Constitution recognises Hindi in Devanāgarī script as the official language of the Union Government. The states have their own official languages, depending on their linguistic demographics. For example, the state of Tamil Nadu has Tamil as its sole official language, while the state of Jammu and Kashmir has Kashmiri, Urdu and Dogri as its official languages. The Constitution also allows for the continuation of use of the English language for official purposes. Article 345 provides constitutional recognition to "official languages" of the union to include any one or more of the languages in use in the state or Hindi language adopted by a state legislature as the official language of that state. Until the Twenty-First Amendment of the Constitution in 1967, the country recognised 14 official regional languages. The Eighth Schedule and the Seventy-First Amendment provided for the inclusion of Sindhi, Konkani, Manipuri and Nepali, thereby increasing the number of official regional languages of India to 18[17]. Individual states, whose borders are mostly drawn on socio-linguistic lines, are free to decide their own language for internal administration and education. In 2004, the government elevated Tamil,[18][19][20] to the newly created official status of "Classical Language", followed by Sanskrit[21] in 2005. The Constitution of India recognises 22 languages, spoken in different parts the country, namely:
- Assamese
- Bengali
- Bodo
- Dogri
- Gujarati
- Hindi
- Kannada
- Kashmiri
- Konkani
- Maithili
- Malayalam
- Manipuri
- Marathi
- Nepali
- Oriya
- Punjabi
- Sanskrit
- Santhali
- Sindhi
- Tamil
- Telugu
- Urdu
Hindi is an official language of the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and the National Capital Territory of Delhi. Bengali is the official language of West Bengal and certain parts of North-east. Marathi is an official language of Maharashtra. Punjabi is a official language of Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Himachal Pradesh. Gujarati is the official language of Gujarat. Tamil is a official language of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Malayalam is the official language of Kerala and Lakshadweep. Kannada is the official language of Karnataka. Telugu is the official language of Andhra Pradesh. Oriya is the official language of Orissa. English is the co-official language of the Indian Union, and each of the several states mentioned above may also have another co-official language.

Just curious to know, if Nepal needs to chose a second official language, (say like Spanish in USA and French in Canada) which language should be chosen as a second official language?
If you chose the one based on population, it should be Magar language,
If you chose the one based on uniformity of language spoken by the largest majority, it should be Tharu language (because Magar dialects are too versatile)
If you chose one based on ease in availability of literature, historical background, and cultural links it should be Maithali or Nepalbhasa (Newari)
If you chose the one based on uniqueness of nepalese value added with rich cultural ties, it should be Nepalbhasa (Newari)
If you chose the one based on ease of use by the majority of nepalese, it should be Hindi.
Which one would you prefer to chose ?

Wikipedia.....hmmmmmm!!
I would think twice.
Its too late now. Anything is possible in Nepal now?? remember how India govt. crushed Punjab's and Darjeeling's movement (even the most recent one). Nepal's govt should have learned smth from such events. Why give in so easily?
'Mark my words, when the constitution will be written in the CA the political parties will accept all these proposal promoted by Madeshi forum just to save the government' - this point is acceptable rhymes with the sentences above.
but as for me, was born as a nepali and will die as one.
BTW, u ever been to border towns of Nepal??

batas and rewire bro when it comes to Indians....I HATE THEM WITH PASSION..........but AS a kid we were all brought up in a country where Indian Entertainment was a part of our life.....and thats where I draw the line ENTERTAINMENT. Now a days....Nepal has stepped up to the standards and has excellent entertaning channels and shows.....and I NOW I prefer them to any HINDI MOVIES OR SHOWS...I was merely writing what choices we had as entertainment as kids in Nepal and the were mostly Hindi and very few Hollywood.........I speak fluent hindi.........and many Nepalese do too.......HOW many Indians can speak Nepali???...its almost none in ratio. SO we have a language advantage too............they cant curse us ..but we can.....IN THEIR FACE........muuji kukurni ko chhauro....LOL they wont understand that...............would my kids learn hindi???? it will be their choice.....I feel its an advantage to learn different languages....AS FOR BOLLYWOOD....its just for entertainment ......like hollywood, kollywood, worldwood
AS FAR AS HINDI AS NEPALS SECOND LANGUAGE.........SCREW THAT............I WOULD NEVER ACCEPT THAT............ANY NEPALI LANGUAGE BUT NOT HINDI....
