Mahendra Club sail into final: AFC President’s Cup

LAHORE, Sept 27: A last-minute minute goal by captain Ramesh Budhathoki enabled Mahendra Police Club of Nepal to reach the final of the 3rd AFC Cup football after a stunning 2-1 triumph against hot favourite Regar Tadaz at the Punjab Stadium on Thursday night.

With the victory, Mahendra Club became the first-ever South Asian team to enter the final of AFC President’s Cup. The hero of Mahendra was their skipper Ramesh who fired the winner when fourth official from Myanmar Cho Win had already signalled three-minutes injury time. Ramesh collected a pass from the central-defender Rakesh Shrestha and drove the ball past lanky keeper Alisher Dodov’s right hand.

Regar started the match without star midfielder Ibraguim Rabimov who was suspended following two yellow cards in the previous matches. On the other hand, Mahendra had to start without their reliable midfielder Parbat Pandey who was declared unfit.

Both the teams opened the match in defensive style and the first real scoring chance came in the 11th minute when midfielder Maruf Rustamov saw his drive going over the bar. Five minutes later, Mahendra got a real big chance when Referee Minh Tri VO ( Vietnam) penalized Regar’s keeper Alisher Dodov for taking too much time in releasing the ball. But striker Ju Manu Rai wasted an indirect free-kick.

Regar drew the first blood in 26th minute through Maruf Rustamov, who received an angular pass from midfielder Umarbaev and steered it past Ritesh with forceful drive into the net for 1-0 lead. Minutes later, Mahendra’s Ju Manu Rai sliced the ball into net but he was ruled off-side.

Regar’s slim lead lived short as Mahendra drew level in the 32nd minute. Midfielder Anant Raj Thapa curled the ball from left wing and striker Ju Manu Rai hammered the ball past Dodov’s right hand to make it 1-1. The rivals went for the breather soon afterwards.

Both the side continued to miss scoring chances in the second half as well with nerves of their attackers obviously showing in the danger area before Ramesh struck the winner.

Dordoi to lock horns with Mahendra in final today

LAHORE, Sept 29: Kyrgyzstan’s Dordoi-Dynamo will go into the AFC President’s Cup final as hot favourites against Nepal’s Mahendra Police Club at the Punjab Stadium on Sunday.

Dordoi, who had won the final of the second edition after losing the final of the first episode against Tajikistan’s Regar Tadaz, have qualified for the final for the third time.

Having conceded only one goal in previous four outings, Dordoi are favourites to defeat the Nepalese, who made their maiden appearance in the Cup.

It will be the second meeting between the two teams after the Group-B clash on Sept 23 which Dordoi won.

Roman Kornilov and Ildar Amirov will be the most dangerous players for the Nepalese.

Mahendra Club sailed into the final after defeating Tajikistan’s Regar TadAZ 2-1 thanks to fast-moving front-runner Ramesh Budhatoki who scored in dying moments of the match.

Mahendra Club are totally aware of the gigantic task they have ahead in the final.

लाहोर, असोज १२ - नेपाली लिग च्याम्पियन महेन्द्र पुलिसले प्रेसिडेन्ट कपको फाइनलमा आइतबार डिफेन्डिङ च्याम्पियन किर्गिस्तानको डोरडोई डायनामोको सामना गर्दैछ । दोस्रो सेमिफाइनलमा डायनामोले श्रीलंकाको रत्नम् स्पोर्ट्स क्लबलाई टाइब्रेकरमा ४-३ ले पराजित गर्‍यो ।
निर्धारित र अतिरिक्त समयको खेलमा दुवै टिम १-१ को बराबरीमा थिए । पुलिस र डायनामो लिग चरणमा एउटै समूह 'बी' मा थिए । त्यसमा डायनामोले पुलिसलाई ३-० ले हराएको थियो । त्यसमा राम्रो सुरुवात लिएर पनि पुलिस पराजित भएको थियो र सुरुमा गोलको निश्चित अवसर गुमाउन बाध्य भएको थियो ।

'समूह चरणमै डायनामोको सामना गरेको हुँदा हामीले उनीहरूबारे राम्रोसँग बुभmने अवसर पाएका छौं । त्यसैले जितका लागि उपयुक्त रणनीति बनाउने अवसर छ,' पुलिस कप्तान रमेश बुढाथोकीले भने- 'आइतबारको खेल पुलिसले मात्र खेल्ने छैन, हामी सबै नेपाली फुटबल प्रशंसकको प्रतिनिधित्व गरेर खेलिरहेका हुनेछौं ।'

पाकिस्तानको लाहोरस्थित पन्जाब रंगशालामा बिहीबार राति सम्पन्न सेमिफाइनलमा नेपाली लिग च्याम्पियन पुलिसले पूर्वविजेता ताजकिस्तानको रेगर ताडाजलाई २-१ ले हराउँदै नेपाली क्लब फुटबलमा सुनौलो आयाम थपेको हो।



नेपाली क्लब प्रेसिडेन्टस कपको फाइनलमा पुगेको यो पहिलो अवसर हो। यसअघि काठमाडौंमै सम्पन्न पहिलो संस्करणमा नबिल थ्री स्टार क्लब सेमिफाइनलसम्म पुगेको थियो, जहाँ ताडाज विजेता बनेको थियो।



आइतबार हुने फाइनलमा पुलिसले किर्गिस्तानको डोर्र्डोइ डाइनामो र श्रीलंकाको रत्नम् स्पोर्टस क्लबबीचको विजेतासँग प्रतिस्पर्धा गर्नेछ। यी दुईबीच सेमिफाइनल शुक्रबार हुनेछ। समूह चरणमा पुलिस डोर्र्डोइसँगको खेलमा ३-० ले पराजित भएको थियो।



नतिजा आफ्नो पक्षमा पार्नका लागि दोस्रो हाफमा पाएको एउटा सुनौलो अवसर अफसाइडको बहानामा खेर गए पनि अनुभवी कप्तान रमेशले अन्तिम मिनेटमा गोल गरेपछि पन्जाब रंगशालामा उपस्थित नेपाली समर्थकहरुको खुसीको सीमा रहेन।



भरपर्दा प्लेमेकर अनन्त थापाको पासमा रमेशले अन्तिम क्षणमा विजयी गोल गरी राष्ट्र र पुलिसको शान उँचो बनाए। यसअघि दोस्रो हाफमै जुमानु राईले गरेको एउटा लोभलाग्दो गोललाई निर्णायकले अफसाइड करार लिएपछि नेपाली समर्थकहरु नराम्ररी चुकचुकाएका थिए।



खेलमा मारुफ रुस्तामोभको गोलमा रेगर ताडाजले २६औं मिनेटमा अग्रता लिएको थियो। उनले २५ यार्ड टाढाबाट गरेको प्रहारलाई प्रहरीका गोलरक्षक रीतेश थापाको डाइभले रोक्न सकेन। रुस्तामोभले गोल गर्नुअगाडि रीतेशले ताडाजको दुई उत्कृष्ट प्रहारलाई रोकेका थिए।



तर पाँच मिनेट बित्न नपाउँदै स्ट्राइकर जुमानुको गोलमा प्रहरीले खेल बराबरीमा ल्याएको थियो। अर्जुन रिजालको पासमा जुमानुले शान्त फिनिसिङमा सो गोल गरेका थिए। तथापि कप्तान रमेशले वन भर्सेस वन गोल गर्न नसक्दा प्रहरीले १३औं मिनेटको अवसर गुमाएको थियो।



खेल समाप्तिपश्चात् निकै उत्साहित मुद्रामा मैदान छोडेका कप्तान रमेशले आफ्नो खुसीको कुनै सीमा नरहेको नेपाली फुटबल वेबसाइड सकरएजनेपाल डट कम डट एनपीसँगको कुराकानीमा बताए।



'म पुलिस मात्र नभई नेपाली भावना लिएर आएको थिएँ। यतिखेर फाइनल पुग्दाको खुसी मेरा लागि विशेष छ। अझ आफैले निर्णायक गोल गर्न पाउँदा झनै खुसी छु', रमेशले भने- 'यो हाम्रो टिमवर्क र प्रशिक्षकको कुशल रणनीतिको नतिजा हो। यो नतिजा हामी सम्पूर्ण नेपाली फुटबल समर्थकमा समर्पण गर्न चाहन्छौं।'



उनले फाइनलमा पनि उत्कृष्ट प्रदर्शन गरेर उपाधि जित्ने लक्ष्यका साथ मैदान प्रवेश गर्ने प्रतिबद्धता व्यक्त गरे।

AFC PRESIDENT’S CUP: MPC faces Dordoi today

LAHORE, Sept 29 - Mahendra Police Club (MPC) will take on defending champion Dordoi Dynamo of Kyrgyzstan for the AFC President's Cup title here at the Punjab Stadium, Lahore on Sunday.

MPC advanced to the final upsetting Regar-TadAZ of Tajikistan 2-1 with a last minute winner from captain Ramesh Budhathoki in the semifinal while Dynamo booked its place in the final edging Ratnam Sports Club of Sri Lanka 4-3 on penalties to set up the title clash with MPC.

MPC and Dynamo have already played each other earlier in the group stages of the tournament where MPC was thrashed 3-0. MPC captain Ramesh Budhathoki is quite optimistic about his team this time in the final.

"We have already played against them in the group, so this time it will be a lot easier than the first time," Budhathoki said. "We are not playing this final representing just MPC but also all football lovers back home in Nepal," he added.

Three players each from Dordoi-Dynamo and MPC are in contention for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award of the AFC President's Cup 2007.

Members of AFC's Technical Study Group will decide the winner after the final on Sunday.

Defending champion Dordoi leads the standings for the Fair Play Award with an average of 33.71 points, followed by Regar-TadAZ on 33.25 points. MPC, which will take on Dordoi in the final on Sunday, could also wrest this award as it is placed fourth at 31.29 points.

Meanwhile, the first meeting of the AFC President's Cup and AFC Challenge Cup Organizing Committee for the 2007-2011

terms was held under the chairmanship of ANFA President Ganesh Thapa on Saturday. The committee approved Chinese Taipei as hosts for the Fourth

AFC President's Cup next year. The draw for the event will be held early next year.

KATHMANDU, Sept. 28: League champions' Mahendra Police Club (MPC) stormed into the final of third AFC President's Cup beating the Regar Tadaz 1-2 on the first semifinal match on Thursday night at Lahore.

MPC will square off against the winner of Dordoi- Dynamo and Ratnam Sports in September 30. The second semi final that will be played on Friday will decide which team MPC will face on the final.

MPC that went to Lahore with injured players did not gave their hope against well equipped and one of the favorites Tadaz, which is the champion of 1st President Cup in Kathmandu.

Ramesh Budhathoki came to the fore stunning Regar Tadaz in the 90th minute, when the match was turning toward tiebreaker as he converted a long pass. Earlier, striker Jumanu Rai, scored equaliser in the 32nd minute of the match after MPC conceded goal in 26th minute by Maruf Rastamov of Tadaz. Rai in the counter attack in the first minute after conceding the goal was able to score for MPC but only to be seemed ruled offside.
