Hi All,
I have an AT&T iphone 5G and want to use it in Nepal. I am pretty technically challenged and as such had a few questions.
- If I want to use the iphone in Nepal how do i unlock it?
- Do i unlock it here or can we do it in Nepal?
- Do we have to unlock the phone to use any of the apps (Skype,Viber etc)?
- Can we unlock an old iphone 3G in Nepal?
- Will the unlocked 5G phone function properly once I am back in the US or have anyone had any issues?
Thanks in advance

I heard they have shops in Jackson Heights (if you are a NY resident) where they can unlock it for you.

Hi All,
I have an AT&T iphone 5G (==> There is nothing called iphone 5g, it must be iphone 5) and want to use it in Nepal. I am pretty technically challenged and as such had a few questions.
- If I want to use the iphone in Nepal how do i unlock it? (==>Call ATT and tell them that you are traveling outside of the country for couple of months and if they can send you the unlock code.. Sprint and Verizon are CDMA carriers and you cant use them in Nepal.. Or search through craiglist, you will find people who will unlock)
- Do i unlock it here or can we do it in Nepal? (===> I recommend unlocking it here, it's cheaper and easy to find someone who unlocks it here)
- Do we have to unlock the phone to use any of the apps (Skype,Viber etc)? (===> No Sir)
- Can we unlock an old iphone 3G in Nepal? (===> You might but it is not convenient doing it in Nepal..so better unlock it and send it to Nepal..not sure if Iphone 3G will support Skype, viber)
- Will the unlocked 5G phone function properly once I am back in the US or have anyone had any issues?(===> Does that mean you want to unlock iphone5, use that in Nepal and bring it back to US again.. you should be fine as long as you dont lose that nano sim. One thing that I am not sure is if any Telecom Provider provides nano sim in Nepal..heard NCELL would be providing but you better confirm that)

In Nepal, Any phone store can cut the regular SIM card into Micro SIM. So, it can be fit on the latest phones, such as Iphone 5, Samsung GS3 etc.
Answer for all the questions, go to ebay and buy the unlock code and instructions for $5-$10. Pokhara koketo already answered other.

Iphone 5 uses a nano sim and you cant just cut a regular sim to make it a nano sim..unless I am wrong.

Pokhara koketo, that is wrong. I was in nepal few months back and I know few friends of mine who had "iPhone 5". They were able to cut the sim and use it.
primyse: it is really easy to unlock the phone, call att and tell them you are travelling out of us for extended period. they will unlock your phone. I think they send a confirmaton email.
Next, you will have to backup and restore the phone using iTunes.
It doesn't matter if you do it here or in Nepal. And your phone will still work here after you come back. I did that with iPhone 4s.

Thank you all for the helpful information. I did call AT&T and they said they would unlock the phone for free since I was an existing customer.

It's very useful do your step by step unlocking.. Yes it will function properly in US and if you want to install some applications in your iphone means you need to jailbreak your iphone.
