Hi there guys, I'm an international student and tried to get my state id today but the DMV denied me. They said they don't issue state of New Hampshire don't issue state id to international student. But they can apply for drivers license.
I guess they denied me because.... the visa has expired in my passport but, before the visa expired I changed my status. From B2 to F1 and I even had the change of status letter. But they simply refused me. I even met with the head of DMV in Concord. I don't drive so was looking to get the state id... make is easier to travel.

I don't know the rules of New hampshire are, but I got my state ID as an international student in North Carolina. I don't exactly remember what I had to submit, but it was a relatively easy process. May be you can talk to you international student advisors?

different states have different requirements for the state id but i have not heard any states not giving state ids to the international students. i went to the below website and found some information.
http://www.nh.gov/safety/divisions/dmv/driver-licensing/non-us-citizen/index.htm
another good thing to do is talk with the advisors at the international office of your school. they surely will have some clues about these issues.
goodluck

Thank you very much for the information. I went thru the website... I found out that I can apply for Driver's license, but it seems I cannot apply for State Id.
•Non-US Citizens who hold a student Visa, work Visa or a Work Employment Card should review the requirements for Non-US citizens temporarily residing in New Hampshire.
I saw the requirement... it only talks about drivers license but not state ID.

I did, I talked to the Supervisor when the lady in the counter said, they don't give state Id to international student or people on visa.. and the head of non-citizen department said the same thing. I thought he was lying straight to my face. But it turns out... they don't issue people state id on visa. But can apply for drivers license.

If they really don't give state ID and you really need an ID then I think you can try geting a learner's permit. If they give out driver's license then it would make sense that they would give out learner's permit as well. You simply have to appear for a written test and if you pass it, you will get it.

I have near heard about State not giving STATE ID for International Student. This is kind of weird. If not STATE ID, try for Driver License (if you know driving).

Well.. I'm thinking of getting a learner's permit... I just have to pass the Written Exam and get the Learner's Permit which is Valid for One year. I'm very bad at driving.. special I suck at parking.
The State of New Hampshire dosen't issue state id to people on Visa... it has been confirmed.
