Stay at Home PM!
In the past, we had our PMs visiting foreign lands for no good reason except to waste our taxpayers' money on vacations, free bhatta and chiya kharcha. And they had their spouses, cousins, and a whole truckload of hakims along with them to enjoy the ride.
Today, it's a different story. Balen has promised himself that he will not step out of the country for a year. The Foreign Minister will go to New York for the usual Guff session instead of the PM. Some of our media wallahs and so-called foreign affairs experts think this is a bad move.
I think we don't need a PM attending every other conference around the globe, even if that UN thing is nothing but the usual photo-op session and trying out bagels and hot dogs in New York. It's not like Balen meets world leaders and Nepal gets US$100 billion energy and infrastructure investments. The foreigners look at our books, and it's been cooked since the 90s.
We import tens of billions of dollars worth of stuff, and our exports figure around at less than a billion dollars if you do not add that oil refining nataks our shady byaparis do here and sell it to India. One day, as they do, the Indians will stop it, and then even that export natak will end.
We have been talking about our hydropower potential since Kathmandu was just a huge lake, and even now, we are not doing enough. If our past governments had done their job well, we would have at least 20,000 MW ready by now, and maybe that could have helped to cut down the trade deficit as well.
The whole system is a rot, and it will take time to fix it right because just putting iodine or a band-aid will only stop the leak for a while, but unless we focus first on severe punishment and jail time for all corruption charges, our hakims will continue to work behind the scenes of our mantris and pocket their illegal gains.
The Malpot is probably the best place for easy money for some of our hakims. Not much has changed even now. Government employees make service seekers run around still, and as the dalals have disappeared, the easy daily free money has also dried up for our lazy sarkari chors!
I never understood why our PM had to visit India or China right after they took office or within a year? The amount of investment or even aid or grants from our chimekis is peanuts. We don't need a dozen ambulances and school buses from India while Indian investors hold hydropower licenses and do no work for decades.
And if we generate electricity from China-funded hydropower projects, then the Indians refuse to buy it for their own reasons, but then they buy billions of dollars worth of stuff from China and build up a trade deficit of a hundred billion dollars in a year with the Chinese.
Our past governments took loans for faulty Chinese planes and loans to build international airports, and we are stuck with the interest payments because it has turned out to be a total waste and another added debt for the country.
The Indians and the Chinese do their trade while getting into fist-fights along their borders, and when it comes to Nepal, they just want to play us and not be good neighbors.
I think the PM should not visit India or China after his year-long stay-at-home commitment is over. He should first visit the Gulf countries, meet all the Sheikhs, and encourage, beg, or do whatever it takes to bring the Dinars and Riyals to Nepal. Maybe they can invest in our energy, infrastructure, and tourism projects.
Then, he should be going to Europe, mostly Germany and the Scandinavian countries, and see better technological help as well, and reform our education system with their help so we can produce a hundred thousand highly-skilled workers who can work in the manufacturing sector, and some of them can be great scientists and researchers and innovators! And maybe we can also produce great writers, thinkers, artists, and creative ones as well!
It's time to think outside the box when it comes to running the government and running this country as well. We have to be creative, innovative, in tune with global happenings and potential, and not just busy shaking our ass on TikTok!
