It was another good story John. Last one was a bit clichéd. Almost like a romantic bollywood movie. This one however is more pragmatic.
I also spent a good amount of time in the countryside of America. A dry county, churches in almost every block, few fast food joints and one Wal-Mart, less people than in my tole in Nepal, and that was it. The town was as dull as its residents and the lives they were living. The only fun thing to do during weekends was to drive to the nearest liquor store which was about an hour away, get drunk and hangout in Wal-Mart. And yes, that was America, the real America. Not what I saw on movies or on cable channels. I was quite not ready for such a culture shock.
However, I did meet some really nice people. But unfortunately their self-righteous, judge mental and arrogantly flag wavering attitude would just destroy whatever good that had to offer. I pitied those ignorant, illiterate fools. But it is hard to pity them when they go and vote their leaders whose action can change lives of many abroad.

JG,

Good work! Keep it up!! hey JG, believe it or not i was aware of your writings (in a positive way). i read your previous writing and i was stunned by the way you write, the person who is pursuing mechanical engr?? so, i this time, i didn't have the courage to read your article directly from the sajha. i copy/paste in the MS word and tried to get the meaning of those words that i didn't understand. sounds pretty funny huh..!! or does it sound that i am bold enough and hard-working enough to read your article in such a complicated way?? hahahaha....!!!! anyways, i was there in carbondale for 4 years. i went southern illinois universiyt. it's a nice place though, you should also begin driving during the day and see around the southen illinois areas ( uncountable lakes in these areas).

ladainian21,
harey shiva, why would anyone find refuge in narcotics to solve their issues, why not go and seek medical help? And why do only americans have these issues and not us? The last sentence in my reply to you had a grammatical error, I believe you did not feel strongly about it. Further, I am neither a journalism/language major nor I ever appeared for SAT, the errors prove it.

Amazing,
I read your story on the other thread....it was written very well...keep it coming.

Purush,
Thanks for the tip, I sometimes might need it too.

Hurray,
Thanks for replying, and thanks for not replying to my previous thread for which I share the same feeling as you do. Better writing prowess is exhibited by threads like this one, not the one earlier. But people love gossip, it is a hard fact. Love, sex and politics are the three vibrant issues in sajha where people want to pen down their feelings. The earlier threads were not at par with analytical readers like you. Thanks one again.

delicate,
Really, I must have known you then....had some good friends in carbondale. Cannot ever forget those wild party nights.

chipley,
dhanyabad.

JG, I wish you write short sometimes but again, it may not be descriptive. Good to see you around. Keep it up.

thanks for reading jira,
......something I really need to work on. I shall try to make it as succinct as possible, I myself understand it is a painstaking work reading over two pages. Thanks again for the advise.

So Tara needs to smoke pot for another 4 years and BINGO!... she'ld be a nurse like her mother. It would take an awfully long time to be a doc then. May be another + 4 years. Hmmmmmmmm, I wonder what degree would i have earned. Interesting!;)

Keep it coming John!

I have driven past countries- Olney alikes myriad of times just to get glimpse of breathtaking pariries painted with wild flowers and grasses. .
How soon the time has drifted off again to become past! pheww..
The subtle memory of my voyage through dusty roads and ever changing oak thickets, of countries is still residing in my mind.
These days I feel accomplished as i am using my present that has just drifted in from future to feed ducks, turtles and squirrels :)) but in a completely different setting- "the concrete jungle."- mere consequences of cutting edge technology.

Nice narration Galt.

John, for my undergrad. I chose to go to a college town which was a lot like your Olney. Then I moved to a big city. I want to go back there (for a visit), I have my host family there and there's just something nice about hillybillies. Don't u agree?

Another good piece of work, I loved your description of the small town. I guess, you can handle any area of writing be it romance, socio-economic brilliantly. I am mesmerized.
I have spent good chunk of time in those areas but I have never heard of Olney, anyway they all look and feel them same. Watching squirrels do their things amused me. They are not even slightly bothered by our presence.

Thumps Up !!!!!

I think, I have been away from Sajha for far too long, haven't I? :-)

John, an edifying read as always - the narrative felt like pouring straight out of the pages of those Bill Bryson books. Your switch to the non-fiction genre is seamless - all very customary of the Galt antics, I suppose! Please do regale us more with your travel tales.

I trust that all is well with you. Long time no 'see'! Have a good day.
Carpe diem
