its was Jan 1998, they stopped me at the airport for more then half hour and asking me to prove that I am nepali citizen. I had a passport and all my school certificate. I showed him everything and that guys told me to go home and get the NAGARIKATA. I shouted at the airport. I was so mad that I just keep shouting.. तपाई  मेरो  नागरिकता  किन  माग्नु  हुन्छ ? म   नेपाली  नभए , यो  पासपोट  कसले  बनायो  त ? विसा  कसले  दियो  त . मा  प्रस्ट  संग  नेपाली  बोल्छु , तपाई  लै  यो  भन्दा  के  बढी  प्रमाण  चाहियो ? बेस्करी  चिचौना  थाले  पछि , अर्को  मान्छे  पनि  आयो  र  जसले  नागरिता  मागेको  थियो , कता  गयो  थाहा  भएन .  येनिहारी सबै मिले का हुन्छन. यो कुनै जातिलाइ मात्र नभएर सबैले पाउने दुख हो. यो कुनै जाति मा सिमित छिन , यो त विदेश जाने सबै लाइ लागु हुन्छा . यिनी हरि सबै मिलेका हुन्छा के ..

I 've been through this - during my last visit to Nepal. I felt so helpless - and at that point I felt that it is worthless to be proud of  being Nepali or being in Nepal after so many years.. It was a strange & mixed feeling - of anger, helplessness and of pain, I think someone goes through the same feeling when he gets robbed.. In fact - I was so angry that It weakened my sense of belonging to my country (for some period after the incident).

Mrs Sherpa - unfortunately went through this painful moment, but taken the issue to media. Thanks a lot for the effort.

Several years ago, a friend of mine, a mahesi from Janakpur and a naturalized US citizen, went to Nepal with US passport.  Immigration official at TIA airport gave him the similar trouble.  Said the passport was fake.  He had to show his driving license and his University ID to convince that he was a US citizen.  He threatened to call US embassy ad then he was let go.........

And we voice against travelling via Delhi !. Let us clean our own backyard before complaining against others.
