In 2005 I filed my tax by myself using the form for international students.I got  40 dollars back.In 2006 some body filed the tax for me (she was authorized agent I guess and she put her social security number with my file mentioning her as she filed the tax for me)  using the form for domestic students I got 2200 dollars back.In my opinion its illegal because I am international student .On the other hand  I am innocent becasue she filed for me checking my passport  visa everything and she knew I was international studnet ,also she put her social security number as my tax filer.Now its again tax seaon.I am wondering whether this kind illegal tax filing get me in trouble while I look for job in futer and apply for H1. I am  confused and undecided  what should I do this year.Any suggestion from expert  or any experience  will be highly appreciated.

 

you can file ur tax by urself. u don't have to do it on others. and about being an international student as ur w-2 comes on ur usa address so u can file as us resident.

To be sincere with you, If it was H & R Block , the money is yours and if audited they will pay it, if you had bought POM.

Now , if audited how much responsibility she is going to take. You have not caught yet and guessing you have been slipped away. But still chances of getting audited, statuary time is 6 years. If got caught you have to amend your tax and pay back with interest.
If you  file 1040 NR, you will get caught.
