Hi all, I am returning Nepal in two weeks after being in US for 15 years. What sort of things are good to take for family and friends? I appreciate if you can offer some suggestions. I hear most of the things we get in US are available in Nepal these days in similar or lesser price. So got confused....

I am also going back after a decade. I bought iphones, lot of t-shirts, shorts, branded shoes, body spray, watches, lotions, USA produced food like pasta and nuts. Stuffs are available in Nepal but its nice to have something with you than regrets of not taking anything. After all you going after 15 years. Thanks

Make sure you don't buy anything for those who did not even bother to give you a phone call during your entire 15years stay in the US. They will now make you feel that they really are the ones who cared for you the most (tini harula lai bhanta dinu nepal mai paincha). So, based on this you will only have handful of people to remember or buy gifts and don't hesitate to spend money on their gifts. This is what I did when I went to Nepal last December after 10 years of my stay in the US.

I agree with H2S. I am buying lot of things but wait people's reaction with me. I will hand gift people who helped and loved me when I was in Nepal. There could be nearest relatives who gossip that after stayed long time in US he came empty (broke) handed. So we should be prepared for generosity and if no one damn care our family enjoy the belongings. Friends, I have few questions. 1) Can we put some phones in check in bags (not hand carry bag) ? How many units we can take ? Most are used ones though. 2) How are airport officials in Nepal ? 3) Should I lock my luggage or just zip it ? 4) Can we unlock Samsung phones in Nepal ? Sorry, too many questions but it could great help for me and OP.

Keta ho yatro phone sone lagna sato euta school athawa anathalaya maa gayera bau aama ko naam bata fund establish gardiyou bhane paap punya ta thaha bhayena bau aama ko chaati chai garwa le fulcha. Bholi bihana tyo balak le dhanya dhanya bhannecha. Mind you, you can sponsor 1 student for at least 5 years in place of one iphone. Ma ta ajjai flip flop phone ma chu, could be different in your case. Dekhawati bhanda pani reality lai herda thik huncha.

H20, I agree 100% with you. Still, you can buy Iphone for you/family and help other people too. Different folks different strokes. You know some siblings would be happy to have Iphone than visiting shelter home. Sushil Koirala owns three cell phones as his property doesn't mean he is more likely to have greater helping potential than Indian PM Modi.
