Remember our national anthem used to read like
'praja failiyos pukarau hami sara le'.
Self-fulfilling prophecy is what's happening; Nepalese are spreading everywhere.

And also without doubt, the more nepalis come to the US or go elsewhere to earn money and/or skills, the more Nepal is likely to benefit in the long run. My opinion is based on how Japan and Korea laid their economic and technical foundations by encouraging their people to go overseas.

Please do not get offended by my duh!. It's a informal but friendly gesture as I have seen you around before.

Have a good day. :)

Yeah one downside could be:
What if the best and brightest who have left Nepal never return and cut off all the ties to the motherland like Arniko, the great Sculptor did back in the day.

Should I do wink wink ;; too now?

Coming to usa on the most restrictive visa like F1 and workin in places Estates park, or ocean city to pay tution to get an incompetitive degree is not an accomplishment. I would be optimistic to see the number of Nepali engeneers or researchers going back to Nepal instead.
Now high ranking officials, mantris, netas and our new barbarian politicans; the maosists , have new motive to take bribes. This time to send their children to study in the USA , not to some bording school in kathmandu or India.

what is going to be the future of these students? are there enough jobs in Nepal where they can work and make up the money spent on their usa education. Is america going to naturalize/assimilate them? where do they belong to? H1bs are getting tougher and tougher every year. Just to get to the point of green card is almost like climbing mount everest for an handicapped guy.

What good does this improvement do to Nepali society? Why not send our kids to India instead where they don't have to work and the quality of education is respected by Americans.

Dont be tooo happy nepali students in usa...

This Year usa government gonna bring such a harsh law.. that no foreign students can work in usa.. if they find working they are deported.. but some pplz might be smart and try to work..
but students who came to usa just one year ago and after that are in great dillema..

i feel bad for those students.. coz they can never work illegally to support their college and fees.

since ins gonna put track on ecery students who came after 2004 or 2005..
any way i wish best of luck for every one who steps to the usa for their bright futuree

Dyamn,

I agree with you on some aspects but not all.

Yes, the amount of resources invested by many for undergrad education if invested in Nepal itself would be an ideal in a sense you would produce quality output in shorttime. I am not sure your assertions of "incompetitive degree" in the USA, although there may be anecdotal cases where the knowledge gained here may not quite apply in Nepal's current case.

About assimilation of new graduates, the neighbouring giants are economically growing and can absorb all. If US green card is getting harder and harder, China has their own green card now.

Thats true Hushpuppy....

To those who have not been to USA life, now the culture is that it is a matter for family pride and prestige for many in Nepal. Yet, USA gives lots of HOPE for many. It is a LAND OF OPPORTUNITIES re kya... But to grab those opportunities, one must be either competitive genius or work 80-100 hours/week!!

Indians have been doing this for years. Back in the 80s, the single most student sending nation was INDIA--many of whom have become very succesful here, and are also a key reason India is getting so much exposure and financial help to build their infrastructure. we can only hope us nepalese will be doing the same in the next 20 yrs or less. I can already see nepalese taking steps in that direction, but with more stringent immigration rules, it will be a lot harder for the indian formula to be repeated.

Why study in the usa and then go to chaina or india? why not study in those countries if they have such bright future.

India is doing good because of the long term stratigic planning by their leaders. Although we see a lot of corrupted leaders in the indian movies, realistic seems to be different with the leader like Man mohan singh, economic and strategic genius.

I am less optimistic if person like Dr. Man Mohan Singh or Dr. Abdul Kalam (Academician later a politician) will lead Nepal anytime soon. Let's just pray. I recently had talked with very very top powerhouse in Nepal and the picture is still gloomy. Yes, there has been a radical structural change in Nepali politics, but it may take a while to change the way people have been doing other regular home run businesses there. Still, lets be hopeful for a positive change....

Gq if you are right...
it would be better if government launched such laws that students cannot work like in Japan.

Enjoy studnets till that..........
