My grandmom got a VISA to US for 5 years. I have heard she needs to enter to US within 6 months to be able to come to US again. I have heard if she doesn't come within 6 months, she can't enter to US again. Is that true? If your don't know, who should I contact to get the info?

i dont think so.. they all say that you cannot.. but many of them has come after 6 months or even a year..  It just depends on them.. There is not hard and fast rule that you should come within 6 months.. but yes..  There is a probability that they wouldn't let you enter the states

Yes ! That is true. I know people who couldn't enter US  after being landed and I even know  one of my friends family members visa was cancelled by US embassy in kathmandu because of the same reason.  I advice you not to listen to anyone and bring her withen 6 months. Everybody has their opinion but In my case I have  been there, done that and  I was personally involved in 2 cases.

If you need further info you can email me.

Mt. Kailash, do you know or just heard about people who couldn't enter the US? I know that is not true. My sister got 5 year visa but because of family reasons, couldn't come within the first year. Then people kept telling her that she shouldn't even try going to the US because she didn't come within the first 6 months. She lost confidence and decided not to come. She was like, "Why waste money and buy plane ticket to US if they do not let you enter the country?" Finally I convinced her to come and she came a month before the 5 year visa expired. They did not ask her ANYTHING besides her reason for wanting to visit and she said to visit my sister. She got a 6 month visa at the airport. She is going to return before the visa expires. People shouldn't scare people like that.

If it helps, why don't you email US consulate in KTM directly? I did that and they replied that people can come ANYTIME within the 5 year frame.

I disagree with Mt. Kailash. It is not true. My mom came after 4 years before her visa expires(5 years). Stop spreading false news.

Make sure you get this right:
VISA IS A PERMIT TO ENTER US. If its issued for 5 years, it is valid for 5 years for multiple entry.
It's like your school id. As long as your a student, you can swipe the card and get around with out any problem.

Dont get fooled by some folks who are not sure about what they are talking. the best place to contact will be Custom Border Patrol.

 Halo,
I personally know 2 people one was sent back from the airport and one person's visa was cancelled by the embassy. In fact it is one of my friends family . In other hand I know somebody who entered US after 6 months of getting visa. I was involved personally in 2 cases so I don't know how you take it. I think it is luck and chance. I even heard that sometime they send them back from London if they are coming through Heathrow.  So I think it is on case to case basis and mainly luck .  I didnt want to scare anybody, I was just sharing my experience and didnt want anybody to go through stress and hassle during travel . And of course it is lots of money if they cant enter US.

I have a serious doubt about the original poster (OP) and the question posted here.
I responded to this question saying this is probably not true and linked to a site which discussed this saying it is UNTRUE. But my post was deleted by the OP and then I see post from MT. Kailash saying things that I have never heard before.

Very doubtful.

 Mt. Kailash...
One, of the reason they restrict your entry at  POE, at least many recent cases, has been the entry of lot of fake asylees...... Choro ko graduation bhanne...ani ayera lau maobadi le dukha diyo bhandai asylum garne harule garda kaam bigareko ho...I met a pathetic looser who gave up his law career to be here and now he brags how he had an awesome life back home, this and that....
So if they ever doubt that you are going to hide out or your family member has been an asylee in US or any certain doubts,  you have a very high chances of being sent back...
I second Mr busenltz...A visa merely is a permit to entry like an ID...School ma badmasi garera suspend bhayepachhi,  tyo , dekhayera...library chirna painchha ta??

But just to console yourself, a polite and courteous email to embassy with all your curiosity and questions should not harm at all.

Queries pertaining to Border Patrol, Visas and immigrations are better consulted with concerned authorities or experts. Us Nepalese have a tendency of making a mountain of a mole and more often than not, a small event, occurence gets blown out of proportion and yes, we tend to generalize too. Just because one person's mom/relative didn't get to enter doesn't mean another's won't. There might be factors that could've led to the former's visa being cancelled.

Five year visa means you can come within five years before it expires !!
There are cases where people are not allowed to enter even with a visa but that has nothing to do with the date etc. remember visa by itself is not a guarantee that you will be allowed in the immigration officers at the airport have the last say!!!
