How Can We Bring Black Money Home?

Our government has formed a committee to investigate ill-gotten wealth of our netas, hakims and those in power since 2006. The committee will not only look through land deals and bank balances here at home but also overseas.

In my opinion, most of our hakims and netas and other con artists who had been milking the system in the past do not actually own much here at home. Yes, they have hundreds of ropanis of land and millions or even billions of Rupees but it is not in their name. Most of the jaggas have been registered in the name of their drivers, far cousins or even mistresses or boyfriends or some innocent guy working as a doko-dai ferrying goods around New Road.

And when it comes to cash, most of the black money has been distributed to meter-byazis around town who charge 100% annual interest on those illegal loans and send some of the profits to the investors, our netas and hakims. Even senior police officers back in the mili-juli sarkar days used to invest in such schemes and make illegal profits. And we wonder why meter-byazis rarely get arrested while the victims are instead put in jail for bouncing their cheques and other financial fraud.

But everything is going to change in our Balen System. There will be laws to act strictly against loan sharks and their backers. Even the cooperative fraud victims will finally see some of their hard-earned money back, even if it is cents on the dollar or paisa. My cousin who had Rs 80 lakhs in some sahakaari in Kathmandu, might get 20% of it back in the worst case or if extremely lucky, then the whole amount after the government sells the assets of the chors running these scam cooperative if these egghead have not hundi-ed the deposits to foreign land through crypto and other illegal means.

According to my own sources from some investigative agency, just like Kantipur wallahs, claiming the same sources for violating one's privacy by disclosing all bank accounts of then Home Minister, I have to come to know that most of our netas and hakims are smart folks. They have used most of our 'Marwaari' business connections to hundi their money to Dubai and the West. They have even opened shell companies in Singapore, Cayman Islands and Dubai and then applied for investor' visas in Western countries. No wonder, most of our retired hakims have PR in Canada and US and other Anglo-nations!

So the question is, how on Earth will we be able to bring back the Black Money home? Well, the answer is, we probably won't! If you follow the past from across the border, the great Desi Santa Claus, Modi-ji promised Rs 15 lakhs to each Indian citizen who is old enough to open a bank account by going all around the world and collecting black money of Indian hakims, netas an byaparis from Swiss and other international financial institutions. The promise was made more than twelve years ago and so far, I don't remember anyone in India getting that money at all!

Most of the netas and hakims have already invested their black money through their spouses or children, buying real estate or gas stations or investing in motels and other business ventures in foreign lands. And the funny thing about developed countries is that they will offer PR or even citizenship to foreigners investing in their country but when the home country asks for help to send that person back home to face the charges, the new motherland of our corrupt chors will simply tell us that we do not have an extradition tready with them and since this guy is already a citizen there, they will not arrest their citizens and send them to a foreign country!

This is what happened with Pawan Kumar Karki! The guy took off with billions of Rupees of depositors' money when he was heading the Capital Merchant and Finance Limited more than a decade ago. Our courts convicted him. His poor father-in-law had to spend years in jail for some reason but our Pawan guy had already fled to the US and had somehow managed to send all the dough there and get a green card and now a citizenship as well.

We tried getting him and his money back a decade ago but we failed because he was no longer a Nepali and his past financial crimes did not becoe any issue to his new motherland! And let's talk about GB Rai, the guy who had invested some of the loans he had gotten from dozens of cooperatives in the country in media projects be it even Kantipur then AP guys and later hired Rabi Lamichane to head a new TV channel as well.

It seems that every Ram, Shyam, and Hari knows that this guy is in Malaysia except the Malaysian government. Either we start signing an extradition treaty with these countries and get them or just make sure that any remaining asset left here at home is confiscated and sold off to pay the loans or the victims. Even Sherey Dai and Arzoo Didi, now enjoying fishballs in Chunking Mansions in Hong Kong are not worried because we can't seem to find a way to get them back home since the Interpol and the Hong Kong government might call it a 'political' thing and not do much to send them back.

The only option for the government is to make sure that all their asset here, be it theirs or transferred to their children or grandchildren, confiscated and auctioned off and deposited in our government's dhukuti. Yes, we must be careful not to take away their ancestral land or wealth, but any illegal wealth must go back to our treasury!

And if we can't do anything then the best option for now is for our Balen governmen to open a website and call it maybe, 'Hall of Shame' and have 'Wanted' posters, pictures and profiles of the corrupt netas, hakims and their chamchas who have bled this country dry. If we can't have the money then at least we can shame them.

Even if Pawan Karki is driving around Texas in his Lambo, and counting his cash from his investment in hundreds of gas stations, we make sure that his rich neighbors know about his misdeeds. Let's have GB Rai's face in big hoarding boards in KL, sponsored by Nepal Tourism Board. We will have his face and our majestic mountains in the background, offering a free one month, all-expense paid five star luxury vacation in Nepal for anybody taking selfie with GB and telling us his location!

What about our SherZoo Couple now living in Hong Kong? Well, we have thousands of HK ID wallahs there. It's time our Nepali Diaspora make big noise and somehow force the HK authorities to not extend whatever visa they have right now to stay there!
